As I understand it, the separatists control around 1/3 of that land and the rest is in Ukrainian control with tons of troops there. The question is if Putin will bring the army and fight to also take the other 2/3, and if so, that would be bad.

Seems like he would target annexing the separatist eastern chunk of Ukraine as well as coastal Ukraine for more warm water access, then turn what’s left over of Ukraine into a Russian puppet like Belarus
