Ukraine has "biological research facilities," says Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland, when asked by Sen Rubio if Ukraine has biological or chemical weapons, and says she's worried Russia may get them. But she says she's 100% sure if there's a biological attack, it's Russia.

fricking Neocons doing their damnedest to get us in a shooting war with Russia.

Since Ukraine has biolabs, US should bomb Ukraine.

Just like US bombed Iraq.

Why the hell would you have a biolab in Ukraine of all places?

We (and by we I mean the [C]athedral [I]sreal [A]ustrailia), have like 236 of them across the globe, mostly close to the borders of China & Russia - think offensive biological warfare posture. 26 in Ukraine alone.

To be clear, she didn't say WE had labs in Ukraine and she certainly didn't say we have bioweapons labs in Ukraine

Not that she would

I think it's fair to question what a country like Ukraine is doing with biological research labs that are of serious concern. I think it makes sense that Ukraine would have all sorts of research labs, as most semi-developed countries do. But ones we're seriously worried about would raise different questions I suppose.

This is pretty straightforward. The allegation is that there are U.S.-run biological weapons labs operating in Ukraine. That's not what she admitted to. It's not the gotcha everyone wants it to be.

That's not to say we aren't involved with Ukrainian labs, but she certainly didnt say that.

Well, and I thought the second part of that that the war was some cover for protecting the labs/the secrecy of the labs. Which probably doesn't make sense if the labs were fairly publicly knowledge.

Anyway, questioning the wisdom of a pathogen lab in Ukraine is probably reasonable, but I don't see how it fits into a nefarious narrative without more.

Victoria Jane Nuland is an American diplomat currently serving as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
Wikipedia - Victoria Nuland "Leaked private phone conversation"

On February 4, 2014, a recording of a phone call between Nuland and U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, on January 28, 2014, was published on YouTube.[24][25] The State Department and the White House suggested that an assistant to the deputy prime minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin was the source of the leak, which he denied.[26][27][28][29]

In their phone conversation, Nuland and Pyatt discussed who should join a unity government. Nuland notified Pyatt that after the review of the three opposition candidates for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine, the US State Department had selected Arseniy Yatsenyuk. She said: "I think Yats is the guy who's got the economic experience, the governing experience. What he needs is Klitsch and Tyahnybok on the outside. He needs to be talking to them four times a week." Pyatt asked: "Do you want us to set up a call with him as the next step?" Nuland told Pyatt that the next step should be to set up a telephone conversation between her and the three Ukrainian candidates, with Pyatt also possibly participating. Pyatt agreed: "I think you reaching out directly to him helps with the personality management among the three and it gives you also a chance to move fast on all this stuff and put us behind it".[25][26] Yatsenyuk became prime minister of Ukraine on February 27, 2014.[30] They discussed that the EU would not commit to mediate, with Nuland adding "frick the EU."[25][31][29][32] According to the Washington Post,

[Nuland] was dismissively referring to slow-moving European efforts to address political paralysis and a looming fiscal crisis in Ukraine. But it was the blunt nature of her remarks, rather than U.S. diplomatic calculations, that seemed exceptional. Nuland also assessed the political skills of Ukrainian opposition figures with unusual candor and, along with the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, debated strategy for their cause, laying bare a deep degree of U.S. involvement in affairs that Washington officially says are Ukraine's to resolve.[33]

A spokeswoman for EU foreign-policy chief Catherine Ashton stated that the EU would not comment on a "leaked alleged" conversation.[29] The following day, Christiane Wirtz, Deputy Government Spokesperson and Deputy Head of the Press and Information Office of the German Federal Government, stated that German Chancellor Angela Merkel termed Nuland's remark "absolutely unacceptable."[34] The president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, condemned the remark as "unacceptable".[35][36] Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who had left the State Department by the time of the leak, argued in 2017 that the incident "didn't have lasting diplomatic repercussions". She said it was notable as an early example of Russia "weaponizing" intelligence against other states: "the Russians were not just stealing information for intelligence purposes, as all countries do; they were now using social media and strategic leaks to 'weaponize' that information."[37]

Nuland left the State Department in January 2017, amid the departure of many career officials who left in the early days of the Trump administration.[38]

It already amazes me when US did sth wrong, US officials can point finger to other people. This is an example.

US worries the lab fall into Russia hands blah blah. Used by Russia blah. blah.

They never feel any guilty. Their faces never turn red when speak lies.

Whole thing just stinks man. It’s almost comical how organized the effort of backing Ukraine is. Feels like a coordinated effort of emotionally manipulating the world with an onslaught of propaganda.

There’s something else going on…

Nice try. Here's the real story behind it. U.S. Embassy in Ukraine

Also, FactCheck did an article on it here: LINK

Basically the U.S. has worked with Ukraine since 2005 to setup CDC style labs. These are not weapons labs.

Here's a paragraph from the Kyiv Post last year (well before the Russian invasion) as Russia was already spreading this conspiracy theory back then.

quote:

“Since 1993, an agreement has been in force to provide assistance to Ukraine in eliminating strategic nuclear weapons and preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. One of its points is the timely detection and counteraction to outbreaks caused by dangerous pathogens,” the SBU said.

According to the SBU, in 2005 the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Defense signed a framework agreement to prevent the spread of technologies, pathogens and knowledge that can be used in the development of biological weapons. As part of this Agreement, a number of state laboratories located in Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk regions were modernized (repair work was carried out, equipment was updated, supplies were purchased, etc.).

And an independent expert that works for the Arms Control Association said this:

quote:

The pact — and a similar one in the former Soviet republic of Georgia — has been the target of disinformation campaigns in the past, said Andrew Weber, a senior fellow at the Council on Strategic Risks and a board member of the nonpartisan Arms Control Association.

“There has been a Soviet-style disinformation campaign promoting such lies for over a decade,” Weber said in an email exchange with FactCheck.org. “It harkens back to the Soviet KGB ‘Operation Infection’ disinformation campaign to spread the total fabrication that HIV/AIDS originated in a U.S. military lab.”

Weber, a former assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical and biological defense programs, said the Defense Department “has never had a biological laboratory in Ukraine.”

Rather, the Biological Threat Reduction Program “has provided technical support to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health since 2005 to improve public health laboratories whose mission is analogous to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” Weber said. “These laboratories have recently played an important role in stopping the spread of COVID-19.”

Looks like this board has (once again) fallen for more Russian propaganda. Sad.
