I wonder if it'd power a 4ton AC with a soft start.

I have this exact generator. I ran a 5, 8 and 6000 btu air conditioners, 1 freezer, and 2 fridge and freezer combos plus everything in my house minus anything that was 220. I would shut the A/C’s off every afternoon long enough to turn my hot water heater on so we could take hot showers every night. I ran like this for 26 days after IDA. The manual says to change the oil after 100 hours of run time so I had to do that a few times. Also I kept an amp probe monitoring the load and it normally ran about 20 amps on each leg so it was never close to being at full load. I ran on gas and had to fill it up twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Where I live natural gas is not available. I spent a good bit on gas but I was comfortable inside the house for those 26 days. The worst part of those 26 days was no internet and no tv except for the local channels I could pick up with the antenna mounted in the attic. I would definitely recommend this unit

Can you link the meter you used to see the load?

I ran 3 window units on the dual fuel version during Ida, 2 5k and a 14k. 3 window units actually cooled our house very well (2300 sf), so much so I wonder why I spent so much money on a 5 ton unit and new ductwork...

Widow shakers are were it's at. Wish I had windows in the right places on the back side of my house.

Just got me one, thanks

Love that it can run off my gas line outside. Don’t love the eBay feedback score for this seller but gonna try it.

One that looks like this. There very common so you shouldn’t have any problems finding one. Fluke and Ampprobe are probably two of the better brands. The one I have is a Fluke. I bought mine at Lowes years ago

I think a poor-man’s whole home might be a leap too far for me, but I do plan on adding the NG fitting this weekend. I have gas fairly easy to tap into where my pool heater was plumbed in.

My gas and electric are on opposite sides of the house and my main panel outside doesn’t have a master main breaker.

It’ll be a big power boost over my little 2k Honda inverter and no more gasoline runs. I can sell that Honda for more than this one just cost me.

Anyone know what size NG line is required to power this unit? My gas meter is on the opposite side of the house as my electrical panel but the water heater gas line is near the electrical panel and has plenty of access to tap into, just don't know if that portion of the line is large enough to run this unit?

Good question, I don't see it specified on the specsheet. I do see the flexible connection hose they sell is 1/2" diameter.

Do you need anything special to hook this up to a NG system? Regulator?

That's beating the hell out of the prices I'm getting. I've only gotten two people to come out. If you're in BR would you be willing to share your electrician's name/number?

Sure - he’s in southeast BR as am I. Can you provide me an email for me to send you his contact info? He is a licensed electrican and has full time job as an electrician for an industrial firm but does residential electric as side jobs. Because he does this type of work on the side I’d rather not post his name and number on TD without his permission.

I can’t speak for this brand generator but I have a DuroMax Tri Fuel 13,000 HXT that I’m running on NG. It came with a 3/4” hose no longer than 15’. That length is based off their info.
Pics of the hose that came with the generator and quick disconnect for my gas line at the meter.

Just opened mine up, also looks brand new. Rolling the dice on "certified refurbished" pays off sometimes.

Gotta go grab a gallon of gas to test it. Eventually need to get quotes to extend my gas line. The previous owners of my house built a sunroom addition on the side of the house that had the exterior gas line.

The reality is, they recommend a 17,000 watt generator for a 4 ton AC unit.

This is entirely because of the typical inrush (LRA) current rating on an A/C compressor. They will size it according to surge where it won't stall out the generator. Add a soft starter to your unit (like the MicroAir Easy Start) and you can reduce the inrush by 60-70%. Both of my 3 ton units are way below the LRA nameplate rating by about 60-70% on startup. MicroAir is very truthful in their advertising of it.

My champion trifuel is 8750w surge on natural gas. It runs my 5 ton unit with the MicroAir soft starter.

For $350, I rest my case.

I'd just test it with propane. That way you don't have to worry about gumming up the carburetor.

Mine did as well. I haven't oiled and tested it yet. The unit itself looked spotless though.
