For years, it was a common sight to drive on I-10 and see huge Summer crowds in BB, and then see all the rides lit up at night in DL.

Recently, sparse BB crowds and NO rides lit up at night.

Anyone have inside knowledge? Would be interesting if it were bought out by a better amusement/ parks company.

The old man pays below minimum wage because he can since it is a seasonal business... and claims nobody wants to work.

Oh, and he has a history of not paying his employees on time either.

Is the them park even open anymore?

I know they were closed most of the summer due to “staffing issues”

This. For what they pay, they could not get anyone to work. With it being a seasonal job, they generally employ high school and younger college kids.

It is a perfectly nice and fun amusement park. When it was open, people were always visiting.

there are issues with the crowd that the park has attracted lately which make it less desirable to be open and conduct the business. You can draw your own conclusions

I pray a commercial developer buys it and tears down this trashy waterpark.

Hell no. A shitty waterpark is better than the inevitable apartments that will take its place

Ever since they stopped having concerts, it went to shite.
We use to have a blast at the concerts, some fairly big names (on the way up or down).
I think DNCE was probably the biggest name we saw. It was when they were up and coming.
Other bands:
Village People (3 original members)
Slater
Cheap Trick
Chris Daughtry

That’s just a drop in the bucket of the bands they had.

It’ would be a great attraction — if owned/operated by a national firm. It would be similar to the Schlitterbahn attractions in TX or the new OWA site in AL.

I realize school is in now, but it used to be opened on weekends before Labor Day.

Concerts were also a good draw.

Needs to be owned / operated by a Six Flags-type company

There was a classic thread about BB’s potential. It linked a Reddit thread with a cost analysis about the potential…which was created by someone who clearly never stepped foot in Baton Rouge.

That is a pretty prime piece of real estate.

Both sides of the road.

They were scheduling some bigger and bigger names since 2010 and it was going well.
Then in 2015 they fricked around and Scheduled Panic! at the Disco not realizing the band was in the middle of a huge resurgence in popularity among teenagers.
Was a shite show. But My oldest kid and niece were there and loved it. Go figure.

WAFB- Concertgoers critical over conditions of weekend event at Blue Bayou

Haynes was countin his money with no fricks given.

In addition to what critics are saying, a Kenner nurse who was there emailed us with more concerns. Lori Olivier said the event had inadequate emergency services, not enough parking, and they let too many people in. There was no limit on admission.

Yep. It seems like it would make sense to sell the place and then someone come in and level it all in favor of better businesses

Funny you say this, supposedly 6 flags was/is in discussions with The owner of Blue Bayou.

However, what they are offering is less than half of what Blue Bayou is seeking.

Source: My wife (no pics) takes the kids to the park every summer. She was told this by one their managers while at the park.

I find it hard to believe that six flags would be interested.

That said, it has managed to stay open for over 30 years with little or no effort/upgrades by ownership.

Like his trucking company? I thought it would be the other way around. I know he’s big in real estate. I believe he owns all that land on Highland around the park.
