Fuel, housing and food are not usually factored in to inflation. Too variable. They are included in the consumer price index which has a truer reflection on the damage done to consumers.

I’m a home builder. My cost of goods and labor has been inflated about 80% in a little over a year.

It is calculated using a tiny fraction of what Americans purchase in order to make it seem lower.

I’m in the refining business. Chemicals have gone up over 100% since 2021 and over 60% since January.

Did you expect each and every item to be raised 8.5%? Some items are up 3%, other things are up 10%. Inflation effects different items differently

This….and inflation also measures goods and services. So while the goods you purchase at the store may be up well over 8.5% year over year, the fixed cost of a service like insurance and mortgage payments help reduce the overall rate.

Please name one item that has only gone up 3%.

Actually stocks are down at least 10% this last year so that’s -10%. And if you throw some tech stocks in that CPI then inflation is much less than 8%. Biden could make an argument for DEflation !

Here we go with another inflation crying thread! When is and who will start the newest Cane’s one?

You are pathetic. You spend so much time worried about sports and other useless bullshite that you don’t educate yourself enough and put in enough effort to better your financial situation so that you’re not affected and don’t get thrown into a tizzy by a $5 increase in the price of a bag of dog food.

Smarten up and get your priorities straight before all you have to rely on in old age is social security and need to eat dog food for dinner. Quit being a slave to others and the government.

I spend about an hour each day reading financial information and news to make money off the current inflationary and political environment instead of wasting my time on bullshite sports stories or crying about the price of dog food.

You couldn’t even google how the frick they calculate the inflation rate. Instead you post here asking it to be spoon fed to you. Learn mother fricker!

Like I already said, pathetic.

This is true. The number is always a "per year" figure.

Dog food going up more than goods in general tells me that dog food exhibits low price elasticity of demand. That is, the people making it think you're going to buy it regardless of price. There's no price point at which you starve your dog (or make him eat corn cobs and coffee grounds or whatever).

Congrats on the economics minor.
