I know ill get more heat out of it. Any other pros or cons anyone has ran into having done this in the past?

I think vented look significantly better if you’re watching the fire a lot.
But if the goal is heat, ventless is hard to beat, particularly if you close your flue.

Not to hijack but my ventless system is having an issue where my pilot won’t stay lit? Is that the thermocouple?
And for the op my ventless is hot as frick. We keep it on low and it’s almost still too much.

Pro: More heat
Cons: Flames don’t look nearly as realistic; more of an unpleasant odor after being on for a while.
Despite less heat, we much prefer our vented over ventless.

If the fireplace has a firebox like a Heatilator, then check to see if ventless logs are allowed. Most can only use real firewood or a vented gas log set.

I've had both and agree. The smell of propane bothers me. If you have natural gas then maybe it's not as bad.

My ventless will be on in my 3,600 sq ft house when it's 15 degrees outside and my HVAC barely has to run if I leave all the bedroom doors open.
Thing PUMPS heat into the house.
ETA:
sidenote - if you put a Christmas tree in the same room and run the fireplace a lot, the tree dries out very fast. It's 15 feet from the fireplace and I still have to spray it with water every day and put a humidifier behind it

We have natural gas and it'll smell occasionally but not often. I think sometimes not all of the gas holes light.
We're actually switching to a more modern look soon instead of fake logs just because I feel like it owns the fact it's not wood instead of pretending :

We have ventless, and wish it was vented. I believe there's no better option than ventless if your goal is more heat. But, ours is almost too hot to enjoy. Like others have said, vented options are much more visually appealing, and way more options for vented logs.

Good chance it could be. Try lightly cleaning it with a scotch pad, fine grit sandpaper, etc. - that’s often worked for me on water heaters without having to replace the thermocouple.
