Ha, no kidding. While the 35 whelen left a sliver dollar hole my 45-70 leaves a fist size hole. Blew the lung right out. I could shoot it all day.

.4570 loads range from very anemic to fire snorting bear smashers. A soft nose hollow point is going in at a half inch and coming out at an inch plus. A 405gr hard cast is going in at .45 and coming out at .45

All 35 whelen loads off the shelf are going to be high performing modern loads. Some have tough bullets (225gr tsx for example) which are basically grizzly bear medicine and usually won't have violent deer destruction. Others like the 185gr hornady stuff will make nasty things happen.

It all works great inside of 150 yards. Caliber really doesn't matter here for 95% of louisiana hunters.

Directly to an enforcement agent "can a single shot breech loaded shotgun have a scope on it" "yes"

I'm not saying whether you or he is right or wrong, but asking an enforcement agent what is legal is a real quick way to get a wrong answer.

Louisiana has some of the most inclusive standards when it comes to primitive firearms.

TC encore. So many options. With different barrels available. Not just primitive.

I've always hunted with black powder during primitive. Picked up a .357 and .45-70 Henry single shot in the off season and scoped them out. Think I will use one or the other and skip all the clean-up this year. Those Henry single shots sure have pretty wood!
