Looking for recs on a .410 single shot. I don’t care for the “snake charmers” you see in the store and such. There’s a model I missed or should I just head to gun broker? Would like to find one prior to this spring squirrel season to take my son. My 20ga shotguns are a little to much for him right now. TIA

A nice wood stock Henry would be my first choice, or a Savage if you're on a tighter budget and don't care if it's a synthetic stock.

Chiappa Double Badger.

.410 on bottom
22 mag or lr on top

They fold small enough to be put into a backpack.

Fine gun there, I especially like the one with the .22WMR combo. Although, I want this purchase to be a simple single caliber.

.410/WMR is what I have. Love it.

For what you want, Hatfield makes a youth model for around $150. Charles Daly makes one for a few bucks cheaper.

First gun I ever owned, love it and still my favorite squirrel gun.

Finding a .410 gun is easy.

Finding .410 ammo may not be.

We were lucky to get in two flats of it this week. Seems like it took forever to get. Maybe easier to get in your area.

Yildiz. I have a wood stock single shot. Really cool. It breaks down and folds up also. Has full "choke" barrel

Congratulations on taking your son along and teaching him about the outdoors etc. Any economical break-top 410 will do the job fine and will help him to make certain that he doesn't just spray lead because he has multiple shots available. It is an important lesson to teach.
I was never allowed to use a shotgun on squirrels or rabbits but was taught to use 22 shorts for head shots instead. Just a matter of pride on my dad's part and it has been passed on to my kids and grandkids. On the other hand, my mother was allowed to use a 410 but she had a little more authority with dad than what us kids did.

I would look at getting one of the youth 20ga or even a used rem 870. With the 870 u can buy a 200$ 16-20in barrel cut the stock down to fit him and then buy a full size stock and put the full length barrel on it or have a home defense gun.
I grew up shooting a 410 like everyone else they are very difficult to shoot and most of the crack barrels you see will kick just as hard as low brass 20ga due to the weight difference.

Why do you want a single shot vs a pump or auto?

It’s for his kid, who a 20 is too much for, so the kid’s probably pretty young. Keep it simple and teach safety with the single shot is a solid plan.

I would not recommend whatever Crack barrel I grew up on. Front bead was gone long before I got it. Just used a match head that I replaced every time I would shoot it.
