same. I love everything about BM. So creative and different and I always watch every episode. A bad episode of Black Mirror is better than 90% of content out there.

My rankings this season would be

Beyond the Sea
Loch Henry
Joan in Awful
Deamon 79
Mazey Day

Mediocre season.
I get beyond the sea is a favorite... but it wasn't that good. It didn't make sense that they couldn't make another robot back home. Why they didn't have any backups didnt make sense. The fact that he could use the other guy's body double rules out any kind of brain mapping/sync issues. I did think it was filmed well.. story was lacking.
Loch Henry's biggest mystery? what happened to the chick's eyebrows. Joan is awful was probably the best of the bunch, but it wasn't a high bar to cross.

I liked every episode except for Mazey Day.

Mazey is my new least favorite Black Mirror.

It was so bad.

ETA: It was basically a really bad episode of American Horror Story, which is already a terrible baseline.

I went into Mazy blind. I didn't know anything about the story and I enjoyed it. It did not necessarily feel like a Black Mirror episode but I enjoyed it.

Salma Hayek took a shite in church.

I think we’re done here. Nothing else to put on Netflix that will ever equal that.

That’s being too nit picky IMO. If you’re not able to suspend your disbelief a little bit you won’t give it a fair shake.

I’m not saying it was the GOAT episode, but it was the favorite of mine for this season.

Watched the first two last night.

Joan is Awful was a solid BM episode. It was a tad too meta for me, but I get that it almost had to be. And I still liked it and thought it was a cool concept. It also is a little more relevant than normal with all the AI talk lately about celebrities and selling their likenesses.

Loch Henry didn't feel like a BM episode at all. It was more just a straight up thriller. However, I thought it was pretty damn good though. And I'm okay with BM shifting genres here and there as long as the quality is good. Even though the twist was fairly easy to see coming, it was executed pretty well. And I really felt bad for Davis. It was weird seeing Podrick Payne from GoT as anything other than Pod, and I could not place where his dad was from and had to look it up..he was the brother in the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies.

I saw it mentioned previously in the thread about the "woke" coupling, and I do have to agree with that. Through the first two episodes, every single couple is gay or mixed race. And it's whatever. It doesn't ruin anything for me (so save those comments), but it definitely sticks out and is noticeable, at least for me. It just feels so overly forced at times.

But all in all, good start so far for the new season. I'm pumped to watch the rest of them and hopefully can get through them this weekend.

that was exactly my point on the nose. I'll still watch, it's not going to make me boycott or anything, but it's painfully obvious and unncessarily forced

you've got the best one and the worst one yet to come along wiht a decent/alright one too. I'll be interested to see your thoughts on the rest of em. Joan is Awful seems to be the most mixed with reviews so far.

It would have seemed less forced if the black girl in Loch Henry wasn't so damn ugly.

It wasn't overly good, but it was entertaining enough. And it was classic Black mirror shite.

Loch Henry was not classic BM, but it was really good tension-wise. It just didn't have the "tech" angle like most do. But that being said, something like White Bear is also not tech-centric, and it's really good too. So BM has shown that it can pull off something like horror/thriller, even without technology involved.

I think I just have one to finish.

I laughed out loud when she took a shite in church.

I find Beyond the Sea to be a prototypical BM episode. And one of its best. It's definitely one of the darkest and more devastating.

Mazey Day doesn't belong in Black Mirror. More of a creep/spook show vibe.

Loch Henry is in the same pocket as Mazey Day...not what I think of when I think of Black Mirror. Still, it was a very tense episode.

Just finished this one. Holy shite, that was fricking brutal. You could sort of see where it was heading, although I suspect most people thought he’d just lock Cliff out in space. But I guess the whole angle of mutually-assured destruction between them both means they know they can’t kill the other one.

But despite how brutal it was, it was leak Black Mirror type shite. Excellent episode and definitely top tier BM for me.

I agree with you on Loch Henry, and said as much. But I still really liked the episode…it just wasn’t the typical BM fare. So your comments on Mazey Day have me hopeful that I’ll at least enjoy it somewhat as opposed to hating it like most in this thread.

But man, I’m gonna revisit Beyond the Sea in my head for a bit I think. And shite like that hits extra hard now that I am a parent and have my boy. I was glad they didn’t show the result of the carnage actually, and normally my morbid curiosity would have me wanting to see it. But not this time.

This show is so good when it makes the effort.

Did Loch Henry give anybody else a Love, Death, and Robots vibe? Not sure who all has seen that show, but it sort of did for me.

You could argue that there WAS a tech angle in Loch Henry - it's just one that has been around for a while that we sort of take for granted and/or forget. That's the ability for regular people to record themselves or others and store the video to share with others, generate influence or relive the event in perpetuity. Not exactly a small leap for mankind when you sit down and think about it. It's just been around so long we take it granted, like flying in an airplane.

The young couple is there in the town to make and edit a video so they can become famous and have a career. The town is haunted by horrific crimes long ago that were motivated by, as we learn, someone wanting to film it. And the old videotapes collecting dust on a shelf create the horrific twist. It's not a murder mystery per se but a show about humanity filming things that envelops a murder mystery.

ya know I never ever thought about this angle. The ending we get is harnett pushing out a chair for jesse so they can talk it out. I guess they are both so unwaveringly committed to teh mission that they accept taht they can't do anythign or go anywhere to they're going to just powpow about it there. But it never occurred to me what would happen once the mission is over and they end up landing back on earth.

I thought it was crazy Aaron Paul kept letting him go back and be with his wife.

Him getting back to Earth depended on keeping Dave mentally in the game. He had to do something.

Cliff's big mistake was taking it so personal. He should have expected that David might take some solace in his wife, and that his wife might be a tad mind-fricked about the whole thing. Its not like they fricked or anything, and the wife ultimately rejects David's advances. Its not like the replicas even have cocks.

If his goal was to calm David down and get his head in a better place, he should have navigated the situation with a little compassion, and rationality. Just take it in stride, and forgive the guy, and don't let him use his replica again.

Now, it still could've ended badly, but Cliff's family likely would have been not murdered.

Just a thought, they should have made replica's of their wives to be able to join on the spaceship from time to time, or at least make a couple of babe replicas for them to power up in such a situation.

Ok so I just finished Mazey Day. It was a decent enough episode of television I guess, but doesn’t belong anywhere near Black Mirror. So I guess I liked it more than most in here, but I do agree with most thst it just doesn’t belong at all. It felt like an episode of that AMC (I think) show Cabinet of Curiosities. And that’s not a good thing really, because that show was extremely disappointing to me, and the episodes ranged from decent to really bad/stupid.

Loch Henry was also out of pocket for the Black Mirror brand, but at least it was interesting and entertaining, involved a TINY bit of tech, and felt like some effort was put into the script.

Interested to see how the last one (Demon 79?) is, but based on the name alone I have a feeling it’s another shot at horror instead of what BM is supposed to be about.
