Purchasing NFA items online…. Is the process the same as a normal firearm?

Bought a Lahar-30 from Primary Arms yesterday. After perusing the item page again, it appears that Primary Arms won’t ship it to my local FFL until I’m approved from the ATF. I thought that was the opposite of what would happen.
I thought it would’ve shipped to my FFL like a normal firearm would’ve. They deal in Form 1 and Form 4 guidance similar to a Silencer Shop kiosk.

They have to do paperwork to transfer it. I think it’s a form 3.

That's not what it says at all. They do a Form 3 between them and the local FFL. When they ship is dependent on when the Form 3 clears. If they do eForm, which I am sure they do, it usually takes about 3 days.
Then the firearm arrives at your local FFL and you can start the Form 4 process, which takes about a year.
