If this was 1950, maybe. In the 21st century I don't see how any book ever written couldn't translate to a movie considering the technology available to film makers. And something like blood meridian where 90% of the book is just boring wandering around int eh west, that could easily be done. Take your pic of a hundred other movies and shows set int he american southwest.

The only thing that may be, I guess "difficult" is some of hte violence, but again that's only limited by the skill of the director. Scalping indians and dead babies in bushes aren't things that are physically or literally impossible to film.

Getting it on film is one thing.

Getting that film a rating that allows it to be shown in theaters is a completely different story.

It would be hard to get blood meridian to an R rating without damaging the story imo.
