The OP says "If Great Britain were a U.S. State, it would be the poorest." Does that sound like a reference to GDP, or does it sound like GDP/capita? Serious question.

I assumed he meant per capita, but I also know that GB’s population is at least an order of magnitude greater than Mississippi’s and would hope most people do. I do see how just reading it would be confusing until you thought about the numbers even a little bit.

GDP isn't a real great metric. For example, an MRI costs $3000 here, while an MRI with same instrumentation, software etc might be $100 in another country. The same output is given 30x value in one country over another by GDP metric.

That’s assuming you ever actually get to have an MRI elsewhere.

But no GB would not be the poorest US state if it were one. It would be top 5.
So, given that metric, Mississippi ranks 37th, and ...

38 New Mexico
39 New Hampshire
40 Idaho
41 Hawaii
42 West Virginia
43 Delaware
44 Maine
45 Rhode Island
46 North Dakota
47 South Dakota
48 Montana
49 Alaska
50 Wyoming
51 Vermont

... are all "poorer" states?

Really?

It's not hard to shop imaging around. Memorial Hermann charged me $1200 to do an imaging procedure in-house. I went outside their system and paid a little over $100 for the same procedure in cash.

Venezuela is richer than Delaware by that logic. Thanks, Joe Biden.

I can't read the full article because it is behind a paywall but is the Total GDP or GDP per Capita? Total GDP Mississippi is ranked 37th and are ranked 50th Per Capita. Mississippi's population is 2.9 million compared to 67.8 million. I would assume this is per capita and it really isn't surprising. They tax the shite out of their people and really exploit them.

If you can get one in GB! They ration care pretty extensively. Great to say that you only have to pay $100 for an MRI, but if it takes years to get one (if they decide to let you get one), are you really better off?

Even though he was talking about per capita, you actually backed up an opinion with facts instead of just saying you are wrong. So for that, I gave you an upvote.

All you need to know about England’s “free” health care system is that they still have private practice health care. It’s “free” but there’s still a market for people who choose to pay out of their own pocket, and that doesn’t take into account medical tourism where they go abroad to get procedures done.

Possibly on a per capita basis?

Or it could be personal standard of living...

When it comes to food, we should definitely be more like Europe, especially Northern Italy and Southern France.

Are you qualifying for shitholes in England? They have them too.

Yes. However, I am personally partial to English breakfasts.....don't know why and I'm the only one. Probably the beans.
