Loooooong shot here... Garden writer from La. who was hilarious and got cancer?

I know. But 15 years or so ago I found an absolutely hilarious blogger who had moved to Louisiania from somewhere north and wrote about gardening in the south. Things like discovering fire ants for the first time. She may have had something about horticulture (whore to culture) in her name, or maybe it was a post. She went to Mexico and got cancer. Both of those things. She didn't get cancer in Mexico. Maybe she just really liked Mexican art, I can't remember. Maybe she lived in Opelousas? Somewhere in that area?

Anybody know who I'm talking about?
