4 star, highly regarded local QB, understudy of a Heisman winner and his heir apparent Nuss. In comes AJ and Colin with Bryce now on the way. Easy to think he might bolt but he's gaining invaluable knowledge and skills with top notch coaching, training and technology in a proven QB friendly system. When does he see the field with meaningful snaps at LSU?

This happens at every school in America.

Some guys are backups... if they dont want to be a backup they go to a mid major or FCS

Sometimes it’s not always about seeing the field. He’s getting some of the best coaching under Sloan and this offense. Also around some of the best QB’s in college football and that will make him better. If things don’t work out here he’ll transfer and be better for his experience at LSU.

This is what sports are all about. Competition. Not really sure what the issue is.

I'm sure he'd say the same thing.

He is our only dual threat option currently, let’s use him with Nuss like Perrilloux & Flynn

QBs have to have think skin and compete now more than ever. Swann was brought in to be a competent backup. Ricky could still beat him out. You just cant afford to lose Nuss to injury and have a Rs Freshman go in.

I suspect his battle with Swann will either keep him here another season or to the portal ultimately.

Is what it is at QB these days, only 1 guy is gunna play ultimately and pretty much every QB wants to play. It's hard to stick around for 3-4 years as a backup somewhere hoping you may get your shot finally as a 4th-5th year player in many cases.

Glad Nuss stuck it out here, going to pay dividends for him.

I would recommend finding a level you can play and start. Not everyone is meant to play SEC football… Great experiences at all levels.

They won’t all be here.
Collins may be the starter for all we know.

I think Ricky Collins will have his chance to earn his spot like every other QB. When LSU signed Howard, some thought he is going to come in and take over, JD5 was the clear #1 and Nuss showed he was the clear #2 (which is why Howard left to Ole Miss where he gets there in 2023 and he is #3 behind Dart and Sanders).

Nuss has shown he is QB1 for 2024, and I think he is ready to shine. Ricky has the chance this Spring and next fall camp to show where he is on the depth chart along with Swan (Vandy Transfer Portal) and Hurley who was just signed. UGA had 3 high 4/5***** QBs on its 2023 roster, 1 of them hit the portal and went to UK. Bama signed Saylin a 5***** from California last month, in 2023 they signed 2 4****, Holstein from LA and Lonergan from GA. In 2022 then signed Simpson from TN, a 5***** and Milroe was signed in 2021, also a 4****.

Holstein looked at the QB room and was not going to hit the field, he went into the Portal to Pitt.

That is modern college football regarding QBs.

From what I know about Collins I seriously doubt he is the type to be disappointed with LSU landing Underwood.

You’re a good QB who is going to be in a room with a position coach who has worked with two Heisman winners + a #1 nationally ranked QB recruit.

In your career, if you seek out opportunities that surround you with mediocrity… you’re gonna wind up mediocre. Best chance to be the best is to surround yourself with the best.

Worst case scenario, you gain perspective & build character.

He has a very good chance of being #2 this year and we are LONG way away from Bryce Underwood signing with LSU.

He needs to show some patience.

If he’s good enough to see the field next season he will. If not you have your answer.

Not sure any contender would want to keep only 1 or 2 QBs on the team. You gotta sign a bunch of good players and let them compete.

It seems like his best course of action is to keep working under Joe Sloan and developing for at least this next season. He will have a shot to be the backup this year, because if he’s already made progress, there’s no guarantee Swann beats him out for that job. We’ll know more about that after Spring. If he gets the backup job, he’s just a snap away from the field and then you never know how a guy will step into that spotlight.

If Collins isn’t able to make a move next year, then he will probably look at transferring. If he does develop some, his athleticism will get him a spot somewhere, even if it’s at a G5.
