Which game would you guys start with if it's going to be your first Souls/Souls-like game? I've always stayed away because I thought they were primarily grindfests without good lore/stories, but after watching YT vids on Elden Ring it seems I was wrong. Still a little hesitant because I'm not sure I'd be into the "part of the fun of the game is getting annihilated 100 times." But I'm curious enough to pick up one of them and give it a shot.

If you want to just dip a toe into the general genre, I’ll go a bit out of the box and suggest Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Very different than Souls games, but with precise, difficult combat (at least on higher difficulties) and environmental storytelling, I think it’s a good starting point for someone who is otherwise reticent about the genre.
