Today we had to euthanize our pet cat of 16 years. My wife held her and they held each other during the procedure. It amazes me how our pets have total trust in us and know we will make the right decision for them. It broke my heart watching them in her final moments but knowing we made the right choice. I hope everyone here will love their pets as much as they love us

I put Sir Winston down in similar fashion, mate. I probably waited a bit too long in hindsight. Was very hard - I feel for you.

I’m about to be in the same situation with wife’s border collie. Dude is 15 in a couple of months and really going downhill while at the same time taking a lot of energy out of us to care for him.

Condolences. Been there before and may have to again soon. There's nothing worse than seeing something you love become feeble and realizing you have to make that decision.

Sorry to hear that. Cats are underrated.

You took good care of her if she lived to be 16.

Yeah, we had a couple for 19 years. They died a year apart. Sucks for the wife and kids, but my allergies have never been better.

I suppose that happens because we teach them to be totally dependent.

My family has had a great cat for 10 years now. Cat was a “Russian blue” with a beautiful gray coat. Well we haven’t seen him in about two days. Today I found him flattened like a pancake on the Highway just outside the neighborhood. Tough loss.

I feel you. Have done it several times, and always are with our pets when it happens.

I put my cat down a year ago. It was really rough on the wife and kids but eventually they got out of the way before I pulled the trigger.

I don't know how this works with cats, but having dogs put down at home is infinitely better than doing at the vet's office. I'm sure the cat would disappear into some deep dark crevice and be impossible to find.
