A buddy of mine introduced me to the world of double edge safety razors, a few years ago, and I am very, very thankful. I used to have the same problem with irritation, and really dreaded shaving. Now, I look forward to it!
I have tried several razors over the last few years, and there were pros and cons to all. However, I recently purchased the Merkur 34C and I don’t think I will be switching in and out as much anymore. However, everybody has to find the razor and blade combo (Gillette Nacet blades for me) that is best for them. But, that’s the fun part!
Don’t overlook the pre-and post shave routine. It always helps to take a warm shower prior to shaving to open up your pores, and a splash of cool water after your shave to close them. Proraso makes a great pre-shave cream. I use every time now, and could not imagine not using it before shaving. Also, I use Aveeno fragrance free lotion after my shave.
Also, there are some great sites and YouTube channels dedicated to wet shaving. Geofatboy, West Coast, Kevy Shaves, etc.
