We did 12 days in Italy and 2 in England to visit family on the way home. We went at the end of September - beginning of October. It was still hot in Rome and humid in Venice. Felt incredible in Florence and Chianti.
5 days in Rome - Sposi Novelli on day 3
4 days in Florence - attended mass at Santa Maria del Fiore, the "Duomo" on the Sunday.
Stopped into Bologna for a few hours while traveling from Florence to Venice
3 days in Venice
Rome was nice but we should have researched more before going, even though we researched a lot. There's just so much to see and experience there.
Florence was amazing. Recommend the Statue of David tour. We stayed across the river from the city, just inside the wall. We enjoyed staying in that location. We did a few wine tours into Chianti on one of the days.
Bologna was nice. Went there because my college fraternity has roots there.
Venice was ok. We enjoyed it, but it wasn't a place we'd choose to go back to.
We AirBnB'ed the whole trip and we are glad we did. We stayed in some great flats in great locations.
If you aren't driving, public transit is cheap. Avoid Uber or rideshares. They are expensive.
That's all I got. Eat a good carbonara and enjoy a glass of Barbaresco for me. Separately of course.
