Igor Stravinsky wrote the music for a ballet in a Broadway revue produced by Billy Rose. Rose sent him a telegram:

BALLET GREAT SUCCESS, WOULD BE GREATER IF YOU RE-ORCHESTRATE IT

To which Stravinsky, not eager for the labor involved in re-orchestrating the piece, wired back:

CONTENT WITH GREAT SUCCESS

Max Reger, a 19th century German composer, wrote this to a music critic:

"I am sitting in the smallest room in the house. Your letter is in front of me. Soon it will be behind me."
