I am conflicted on this. I couldn't rationalizing giving Murphy 25M+, when Jones is getting 13M. That doesn't make sense. Jones is better and more proven. Murphy might have a higher ceiling (might). But he hasn't showed that yet.

I'm of the radical opinion to trade both Murphy and Ingram (if we are keeping Zion). Let Jones move to the 3 and Hawkins/McCollum to the 2. We get a big time PG and are able to give Daniels serious minutes on the wing (where he belongs).

The thing is Herb would have gotten WAY more than 13 if the CBA would have allowed it

Herb chose the max money he could get now over risking playing another year on a minimum deal then having millions more open up to him.

I'm with you. I'm afraid we're going to overpay for Trey. $25M is a lot for a guy who can't initiate.

This is like wondering why Ant Edwards makes less than Bradley Beal…they aren’t in the same contract situation. The CBA limits the salary some players can sign at and really depresses their earning potential. Good for the pelicans, bad for Herb jones.

And I think people are just gonna kinda have to get over this aversion to paying Trey $30 million a year. That’s just what good young players will earn moving forward under this ever growing salary cap. Trey is well worth it.
