Their new special I see on TV includes chips and salsa, a soft drink, and a burger and fries for $10.99. This is nearly the same price as a "value" meal at any of the fast food burger joints. Fast food might be dead as we know it.

I would think McD's can survive on breakfast, but IDK. I do wonder how much fast casual like Panera and Chipotle is hurting fast food.

Most of McDonald’s business is through the drive-thru. It’s apples and oranges.

I really thought terrible service, bad food, and escalating prices would have destroyed McDonald's by now.

Fast food hasnt died because of the drive thru.

It’s easier for parents than trying to get everyone to a sit down dinner on a Tuesday after dance and baseball.

Chic fi la is going with a third lane now I think? They weren’t making this money when they were just a small op in the mall food courts.

It’s because they opened stand alone restaurants with drive thrus and do really well getting their food out to the customer regardless of how busy or not busy they are.

Chili's could make that deal $1 and McDonald's would be fine.

Mickey Ds has enough wealth that they'll revert right back to the dollar menu to destroy the competition.

when wendys, mcdonalds, and BK are the highest places to eat, they lose their whole reason for being.

if Chillis has the best value meal, im always going there and so will most people

I assumed Chilis was on the ropes. Not sure if just one item on the menu can revive them.

On another note, I see that Burger Doodle on Siegen has boarded up their windows too.

Can I eat that barreling down the interstate doing 85, posting on TD and cursing out people doing only 80 in the left lane?

I used to go to the Chilis on Siegen or Millerville.

I quit going cause it was so dark I couldnt read my menu anymore.

Better, but unless Chili's starts a drive thru McDonald's will still have a niche.

When our kids were little, we'd go to Chili's maybe once per week.
We were given a fat stack of kids eat free coupons, and it was cheap and convenient.

There isn't a Chili's convenient to us anymore, that place is now a First Watch. In other words, they swapped a place we could treat a family of 5 to dinner for under $50 for a breakfast joint that costs over $100 for a family of 5...

If I am on a road trip, I am far more likely to just stop at a gas station or travel center with decent food than to make an extra stop for fast food.

So it's a combination of things.
They aren't fast any more, so many are slow as frick.
They aren't cheap any more, you can eat at at sit down restaurant for comparable amount.
Gas stations have stepped up their game.
and so on

Every time I’m tempted to stop and get a bite to eat on my way to or from work, I tighten my belt and go home and find something. Or I’ll stop at the grocery store and buy something cheaper.

Without a true drive thru I don’t see them ending McDonalds. At least around us They did a good job during covid of quickly converting to a Togo place (especially considering how difficult it was to keep and hire employees), but that was using their app to order and having employees stationed outside to greet customer and then go get their specific order for them.
