Within the last year about 25% of the United Methodist Churchs left the denomination over these issues - many are now non-denominational or have joined the newly formed Global Methodist Church.
It will be very interesting to see how the United Methodist Church handles this Mass departure from a monetary standpoint. Overall I think the United Methodist church denomination will struggle moving forward.

I mean running a church has to have extremely low overhead since you are a non profit and get tax exemptions. Most of the buildings/land was probably paid for upfront by fundraising efforts.

Anecdotally as someone who left the UMC, most of the churches they lost were smaller churches that weren't big money printers anyway.

This has been the struggle within the last several years within the United Methodist Church. Many churches have already taken votes. The ones that have a majority that disagree either join the newly created Global Methodist Church or choose to go independent. Also some Methodist Churches just don’t vote but lets be honest, not voting still puts you on a side since you agree with it but are to afraid to break away.

They are going to be cash rich.
You must pay a fee to leave and then negotiate the terms of the real estate.
It’s sickening.

It should be frightening that 75% stayed.
