On Cowboys from Hell, Phil still had some high notes in their songs that was still in their 80’s Power Metal album phase. Once they did Vulgar that type of vocals was pretty much gone. Then they really went more extreme with Driven & Trendkill.

I could write a thesis on how hair bands burned out & grunge took over for it. There have been some great posts on here detailing it.
