What do you believe about the thousand year reign?

We're in it now. The number 1000 has symbolic significance here. It doesn't mean an actual 1000 years, but is intended to mean the Church's age, when Jesus reigns on earth in those who believe. The thousand years reign is the era between the first and second comings of Christ.

Christ's death on the cross and resurrection are what binded Satan to allow His Church to be planted and grow. Though this doesn't mean Satan is totally inactive, but he can't deceive nations by keeping the gospel from them.

The thousand year reign is concluded with the release of Satan and the final battle of history. Gog and Magog are nations hostile to God's people, gathered for one final assault on Jerusalem as the Church. God will send a consuming fire and throw Satan into the lake of fire along with the beast and antichrist. He will no longer be a threat.

How that all actually plays out is beyond me. It could happen in a second or in a million years in human time. But in God's time, it's imminent.

My church doesn't focus much on apocalyptic writing. While it's a good reminder to remain steadfast, vigilant, and to continue to strive to become more Christlike, there's a human tendency to be overly drawn into the sensationalism of end times writing. And that risks leading otherwise good Christians astray.

Ultimately, it's out of my control. I'll leave the details up to God and focus on the things I can control like my family's standing in the Church. But as for the 1000 year reign, I'll reiterate that we're in it now. It's the time between Christ's first and second comings.
