I know he’s controversial, but personally I like a lot of his food, and I’m glad he keeps opening new places in New Orleans.

Nola doesn’t really have any good meat and 3 places that I’m aware of, it’s not a big thing.

Maple Street.

At a meat-n-three, the format is spelled out in the name, and the style of food is familiar through tradition. But given the names behind a new one coming soon to the Uptown neighborhood near the universities, you know it will be a bit different.

Hot Stuff is set to open in the weeks ahead at 7507 Maple St. It’s the latest sibling for Turkey and the Wolf, the Irish Channel restaurant known for its creative sandwiches and the droves of people who line up to try them.

Hot Stuff is designed for quick service and aimed directly at lunch, with opening hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Breakfast or nighttime service are possibilities in the future, but there aren’t immediate plans along those lines now.

For instance, the hamburger steak will be hamburger steak au poivre, with the French peppercorn sauce. The green beans might get a dose of miso, and garlic chile crisp will finish the roasted cabbage wedges.

Fried chicken is set to be a mainstay, from a recipe Barfield and Hereford and their cohorts developed with a marinade of buttermilk and hot sauce. Red beans and rice will naturally be on the line on Mondays.

“This is a combination of the way I grew up, eating back home and living in New Orleans, experiencing plate lunches and fish fries,” Barfield said.

The counter where you pay will double as a bar, with a uniquely DIY approach. You can order your spirit and then take it over to the soft drink fountain to fix your own mixed drink.

They can't help themselves with throwing in a goofy gimmick.

Meat and three? Is that some kind of redneck or hipster terminology for a plate lunch?

Was looking at the location and just realized that Maple Street Patisserie permanently closed down.

I know they weren’t the best bakery in the city, but I always had a soft spot for them.

Do colleges kids want to eat meat & 3 for lunch?

Idk

But everything they do is solid. This is my least favorite idea on paper

They are known as plate lunches or hot plates.

Yeah I enjoy their food. I would say my tolerance for hipster nonsense is low, but they have substance behind the marketing.

This should be good.

this is his 4th restaurant and you have to give him credit for investing in the city.

I just don’t show up at his Palestine rally dinners.

A plate lunch? Tons of places have great plate lunches. Maybe most are two sides not 3 unless you count bread.
But I can think of a few. Frady's, Sammy's, Triangle deli, a ton of gas stations.

Worst sandwich and service I have ever had. How do you screw up a freaking bologna sandwich!
