No, BI hasn't cost him anything yet. He still has a year left on his contract. He can still play it out, perform at an all-star level, and get a new max contract next summer as a UFA.
Sure you can take it as one more year to do that but being a third option in philly and/or second option elsewhere its going to be tough to make all NBA or all star. It’s certainly possible but nola gave him the opportunity to be the guy or at least 1A early in the season to achieve those goals.
Honestly his best chance was this year not next.

Well if he is really looking to prove he has all-star potential/rehab his image, then his best landing spot would be somewhere like Detroit. They are looking to win more games, and he would immediately be their best player. Could certainly rack up the stats there.

No one is going to trade for him as a one-year rental. No team will want him unless they can lock him up for the long term. If his perceived value has really dropped so much that no one wants to give him a competitive extension, then it's in his best interest to play the year out with us, and it's in our best interest to avoid trading him for peanuts. He's likely be worth more at the trade deadline.
It's why I'm somewhat skeptical that we actually trade him this summer.
