No one is going to trade for him as a one-year rental. No team will want him unless they can lock him up for the long term. If his perceived value has really dropped so much that no one wants to give him a competitive extension, then it's in his best interest to play the year out with us, and it's in our best interest to avoid trading him for peanuts. He's likely be worth more at the trade deadline.

You do what you’re saying you’re basically screwing more than half the season to increase BIs value, which personally is not smart. It stops Trey from starting and you have solved none of this past team’s issues because you don’t like BIs perceived value. If he plays the whole year out- he will walk for nothing- which is absolutely not a smart move.

If you’re not going to extend him- you HAVE to trade him this offseason even if he is a sunk cost and you wont get maximum value for him. You don’t try to increase a players value while screwing up the whole team. You think Trey signs his extension knowing hes coming off the bench again next year? You’re ok losing games because we’re trying to increase BIs value?

Too moving parts; not worth it just to increase his value.

Exactly, you trade BI this summer or extend him. Do not go into trade deadline and risk getting nothing for him. The time to trade him was last summer. Don’t keep waiting. No one is going to want a distressed asset with half a season to figure out what to do with. And then you’re essentially wasting a year of your own team because you aren’t going to shake up the roster mid season and compete. Just pull the trigger.
