Because sports are about life lessons. Your kid was shown the importance of commitment and what happens when people you are counting on don’t come through.

You had a great opportunity to explain the situation to him and talk about the power of teamwork.

But being you, I’m sure you probably cuddled his little head and told him losing didn’t matter and then rewarded him with ice cream

do you live your whole life assuming the worst about people? That’s gotta be so taxing.

My son didn’t even notice the other team had more players. I commended him for playing so hard and that was pretty much the end of it. A bunch of his teammates made their first communion that night, which is why they weren’t there.

We can’t control what other people do, we can only control how we respond to what they do. I was impressed with how my son and his teammates who showed up responded to being outnumbered and not getting any breaks during the game. They’re great kids.
