The problem with Jimmy Buffet was that his songs which were actually good (like spider John) were not the popular ones

my dad was an Altar boy with Jimmy growing up, and is friends with Lulu.

sucks we lost him - growing up on the coast, and for a time living on a sailboat, Jimmy Buffet was a huge musical influence growing up.

his music reminds me of better times with my dad, and growing up.

That was a very good one, but it is actually a cover of a Willis Alan Ramsey song. (I like JB's version better by the way).

I agree that his best songwriting was on his early records. They are full of great stories that no one ever hears because they never saw the radio.
A lot of people dismiss Jimmy Buffett as just having a few beach/party songs and a name brand, but he was actually a great songwriter/story teller, and extremely intelligent.
