Umbilical Hernia, Any of You Ever Had One?

I've had a persistent cough since having the flu back in March. After a good fit Saturday, I started feeling pain in the belly button and just above. This morning, I found the protrusion. Just a small, soft swollen spot at the top (inside) of the button.
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to get it checked.

Anyone ever had the surgery for this? How was recovery? I have a long summer of hiking and camping planned.
