quote:I think the negativity towards obesity is that it’s an outward reflection of bad choices. It’s the result of poor self control, laziness, lack of pride, gluttony, and a myriad of of other negative traits.
Once again, I love the OT
Being fat = bad
Taking meds to stop being fat = bad
Never change OTards
If obesity was an immutable characteristic such as hair color or height, people would be much more understanding.
But when some miracle drug comes out that allows people to lose weight, but the person who takes it is just looking for a shortcut and are not willing to actually fix the negative behaviors that got them to where they are, it rubs people the wrong way.
If someone has a serious weight problem and just cannot shake it, I don’t think anyone has any negative feelings about them getting medical help. But if someone is just looking to take a shortcut because they can’t stop eating a bunch of junk and don’t want to get off their arse, then I think it’s completely natural to feel a bit of contempt towards those people.
