Once again, I love the OT
Being fat = bad
Taking meds to stop being fat = bad
Never change OTards
If obesity was an immutable characteristic such as hair color or height, people would be much more understanding.
But when some miracle drug comes out that allows people to lose weight, but the person who takes it is just looking for a shortcut and are not willing to actually fix the negative behaviors that got them to where they are, it rubs people the wrong way.
If someone has a serious weight problem and just cannot shake it, I don’t think anyone has any negative feelings about them getting medical help. But if someone is just looking to take a shortcut because they can’t stop eating a bunch of junk and don’t want to get off their arse, then I think it’s completely natural to feel a bit of contempt towards those people.

Nothing in the thread demonstrates the challenge that obese people have or the judgement they face more than this one. Obesity ALWAYS and UNIQUELY among the medical issues has to be framed as a MORAL failing. Even when the science is there about hormonal deficiencies that shows that a high percentage of people never feel satiated due to a specific hormonal deficiency that can now be addressed, people still want to shame the obese with moralistic lectures.
We now have a medication that quells the noise ( that’s what is happening folks) caused by a specific hormone they are lacking and allowing these people to eat normally, exercise more, look better, have more confidence, engage the world with more vigor and optimism, stop taking their other medications, avoid that heart stent, avoid dying 15 years early because they have diabetes and they are still being told they should face the “ contempt” of others.
The resistance to these medications on “ moral grounds” lol are silly. We should be talking about legitimate side effects and leave the moralizing to internet grifters and Muslim clerics.
FTR, taking this medication has been a life saver for me and my hereditary esophageal issues that were ruining my quality of life. Having to puke every time I take a bite of solid food is a real drag . Being satiated on a protein shake and being able to function at a high level on half the calories is just the blessing my GI tract needed and keeps me out of the emergency room and GI office. The more ya know…
