Regardless of his Trump's reason for paying Stormy he paid with his own funds, therefore there was no misappropriation of campaign finances.
So the only other avenue to pursue might be an obligation to report any and all payments made in conjunction with the campaign, no matter the source nor to whom the payment was made. Which then requires the jury to infer whether the only motive was to avoid political harm rather than to protect his family. They are both valid goals and regardless of what one wants to believe the tie goes to the runner.
The other question is does Trump get shielded by the fact he was acting on the advice of his attorney who created the plan and put it into motion, elected to make payment by taking a home equity loan on his own property and paying out of his own check book. ( Tiger fans, Cohen was Will Wade like on that one)
