Dems are probably wanting to make sure they can break glass in case of emergency at the convention and appoint another candidate if Biden shits the bed.

The Democratic Convention is a month later, mid-August. They are going to do a second debate in September.

This may be the very act of throwing Biden to the wolves. Getting nuked from orbit by DJT live on television could give them the ammo needed to put him out to pasture.
