Mississippi Kite- Built Nest and Disappeared

I saw numerous kites several weeks back. A pair built a nest in an oak in the yard. I suspect they returned from last year.
But for the last couple of weeks I haven't seen any in the area. Any ideas? Is this common?

I have no idea as to what happened and why but they are one of my favorite birds. I can watch them hunt for hours

They're back on the nest today. Maybe they had a vacation scheduled.
