It really does. I get it from the organizational standpoint but it does suck, we probably never will see another Kerry Wood 20 k game again. Skenes is in the ballpark of the stuff that Wood had that day, which is arguably the greatest game ever pitched.

11th K on pitch 100 at 100mph.

Insane how good he is and only 21 yrs old.

Hard to say. Nolan Ryan lasted a long time.
Strausberg was supposed the be a phenom as well and crapped out after 12 years. Strider had tommy John in 19 and and a recent elbow surgery. And the best pitcher in baseball (degrom) cant stay healthy.
The days of guys that throw 100 mph+ fastballs and end up having Nolan Ryan type career are gone. For that matter, probably wont see anymore 300 game winners for a while
Skenes will probably be done in like 6-9 years with right around 90 career wins.

i'd say he finished strong. you arent gonna throw a guy back out there for 3 more innings at 100 pitches.

Is it really scrapping out after 12 years?

Absolutely incredible arm for sure.

Difference w Skenes is he didn’t start pitching until his junior year of high school, and didn’t pitch much. His senior year was cancelled due to COVID. He was a relief pitcher his freshman year of college and his first season throwing a lot of innings was last year. He doesn’t have near the wear on his arm your typical pitcher of this generation has

Unless they plan on shortening games to six innings, you’ll never see another 300 game winner

Kershaw is 35. He needs 90 more wins to get to 300. He hasn’t won more than 13 games since 2017. He’ll likely retire long before he threatens 300 wins. Even averaging 15 wins a season he’d need to do that until he’s 41 to get 90 more wins
And he’s not healthy this year. He hasn’t pitched yet due to shoulder surgery

Hopefully he pitches more than 12 years but Sandy Koufax pitched 12 years and is still considered one of the best ever.
