Pan Am Flight 759 Crash

I was going through some old photos my Dad had taken and found these. They were taken July 9, 1982. I was 8, and my Grandmother had just moved from NOLA to Kenna Brah. He had taken me to check on her since the crash was in her neighborhood. He sneaked into the debris field, which started on the block behind her house, with me and I can still pretty clearly remember the wreckage. Even for an 8-year-old, it was a pretty sobering scene. 153 people lost their lives in the crash, including all 145 on board, and 8 people on the ground.

Horrible. My mom worked the crash site as a nurse, she has a vivid memory of it till this day.

Close to my home is Air Canada Flight 797, June 1983. The 2 Americans who died were the Cox family. Cranfill and wife. They lived 4 houses down and my kind-of-girlfriend KK lived next door. They owned 2 Dairy Queens in Gilmer, oddly enough. One on each end of town of just 4000 pop.

Very cool and historical pics. As a then 14-yr old, I rode my bike to the crash scene and remember the strong smell of airplane fuel. A girl who was 2 yrs older than me and attended my high school lost both their parents in the crash. The 5 surviving children ranged in age from 4 to 17.

It was taller than I was at the time; maybe 5-6’ in diameter. I remember being amazed that it looked like the engine was just placed in that corner. Lucky homeowners, indeed, especially if they were at home at the time.

I had an old coworker that was a cop that worked the scene.
They made them a hardbound book with news articles, a pile of photos and all the crash reports.
He brought it to me to read the week before I had to fly somewhere.
