You might wanna go watch that 2nd inning again.

I'm sorry, he gave up hard contact to 4 of the 5 consecutive batters.

The grounder up the middle had an EV over 90.

I like it get through the first time they order and he rarely puts people on base the 1st inning is always crucial. We get them with 0 runs in 1st it’s always huge to start the game. We have other arms in pen I trust to extend.

Kade Anderson would be worth a shot
Moffett an inning or two
Loer can extend as well

All hands on deck

Dutton will throw strikes, but his stuff is not SEC level. I'm sorry, it's just not. He's going to get hit, and hit hard. His good outings happens when those hit balls are right at people. I don't want to depend on that today.

Who else do we have? I’d rather a guy that throws strikes and makes them earn it that someone that’s just gonna free pass us out of the game immediately.

If the plan is to go one time through the order, I can live with that I guess, because he would likely be needed to do that at some point today anyway.

Pretty sure that’s the plan. I don’t think he should go more than 3 innings either

Going to need Ulloa to put up some scoreless innings like he did last week against Bama.

Other than that one inning from Dutton and the beginning of the third inning, we piece-mealed the bullpen really well last Sunday.

We don't have another option without flaws for sure. If it's me Hurd is my guy though. Out of every option Hurd has the greatest ability to go 5 scoreless. Has he done it consistently? Hell no. But it's there, and we know it's there. That's what I would take my chances on. I know it's less than ideal, but I'd take it over just hoping they balls the torch are caught.

Right, there is a reason the staff chose Dutton, and really who else is clearly better

I mean, you can rationalize any bad decision a coaching staff makes with this logic.

I mean Dutton has shown he can go 2-4 innings before, which I would be shocked if they ask him to do more than that. I’m thinking they ask him to go 2 innings and if he gives up a hit past that he’ll get pulled. If he lets 2 runners get on in the 1st two innings, they’ll pull him then. I guess my point is that who starts this game doesn’t matter much to me as I think all of them will have an extremely short leash.

I wasn’t going to get upset about it no matter who they pick because I don’t think we have many options that can really extend

He’d better face nine and that’s it. He’ll get shelled the second time through the lineup.

Hoping that the plan

Once through the lineup. Then have guys ready to go at first sign of trouble.

We are out of quality arms. Need guys like Dutton to give us 2+

Maybe he bounces back, but I agree that he gives up way too much contact. Especially after an inning or so of pitching.

I don’t think he’s on the list for today.

I imagine this is Jay’s plan today, and if things go well, he can leave him in until Ole Miss begins to hit him. Regardless, we’ll need someone to eat innings today.

So has Ack. So has Anderson. So has Hurd.

Of those 4, Dutton throws the most strikes but has the worst stuff (by far in my opinion). That's my rationale with it. Those other 3 clearly have flaws as well though. So we can sit here and pick apart any option that would start today. I'm not throwing a fit about it (like I did last year when Skenes started against Tulane). Just wouldn't be my #1 choice today, but what the hell do I know really.

If we piece it together like we did last Sunday and hold Ole Miss to 4 runs or less then you gotta like our chances. We aren’t facing Hess today. Ole Miss is probably the worst offense outside of Arkansas that we have faced in league play.

Tigers with the sweep and getting hot going into post season play. LSU 12 Ole Miss 3

I’ll be honest that’s a head scratcher for me.

It makes perfect sense, and it’s the smart move. In order to get through nine innings we will pitch about four guys we have no confidence in. Each of those guys MUST be backstopped by a high leverage pitcher. Once you think this through it becomes obvious that you should start with one of the low-confidence guys.
