Several pitchers have had several stellar outings recently. Perhaps there’s been some improvement amongst that group.

It makes perfect sense, and it’s the smart move. In order to get through nine innings we will pitch about four guys we have no confidence in. Each of those guys MUST be backstopped by a high leverage pitcher. Once you think this through it becomes obvious that you should start with one of the low-confidence guys.
