Another frustrating game before our Tigers learned to get over the hump. Should have won this game

If this is the 13-13 tie, I was in attendance.

Drove in from Ft Worth for this and vowed I'd watch on TV from then on after it ended in a tie. Disappointing to not beat an Earl Bruce coached Buckeye team ??
Ps. I didn't keep that vow forever ??

So damn hot that day. No breeze no clouds and humid as frick. The student section at the time started around the 30 on the west side and went halfway thru the NEZ. Doing molly and pounding a flask of Beam wasn't the brightest idea to beat the heat either. This game and the '88 contest in Columbus should have both been wins. The disparity in team speed and talent at the skill positions was huge, but in that era, spreading the field with no huddle to take advantage of that was unheard of. Chris Spielman for OSU was a grown arse man.

Also era related, the game was stopped to quiet the crowd when OSU had the ball numerous time. Ridiculous to think about today.

I remember the titanic hit LSU's LB, Eric Hill, laid on the Ohio State wide receiver. He wanted no more routes across the middle after that. LOL

Me too. It was very frustrating that we didn’t pull that one out.

Most publicized game I can remember as a kid. We threw a pick inside the damned 10 late in the game, blowing a chance at a game winning chip shot FG which would’ve given us a 16-13 win. Freaking 34 year old Mike Archer let Earle Bruce (OSU coach) intimidate him. LSU wins, they just to 3rd in the polls which was a HUGE deal back then.

I was there.
Hodson threw an interception in the end zone that blew our chance at a winning field goal.
One thing I still remember about that game. At that time my seats were in the southeast corner above where the visiting team comes out. It was a very hot and humid day and the Ohio State coach came out in a black suit and hat. He was dressed for Big Ten country weather.

If I recall correctly, LSU only lost one game all year and that was when Tommy Hodson was out against Alabama. I took my 7-8 year old son to his first game and all night long it was Bobby Humphrey left, Bobby Humphrey right. It was old school grind it out and we couldn't stop Bobby Humphrey. It was great sharing that with my son but the L wasn't fun.

Its tough to say how great the '86 and '87 team were. They were both the best in the conference those years. Another poster said it best. We just had not learned to get over the hump as a program. We shite the bed against an average Bama team without Hodson, and never should've tied OSU. Beat a very good A&M team on the road to start the season.

'86 was probably a better team but was Hodson's first year and was still a little green and we had two silly home upsets while a double digit favorite. VERY fun but frustrating two years as a student. People getting together to form massive tailgates was in its infancy and was untamed and awesome. You could park anywhere on campus, side of the road or the median for free, including motor homes, a honda civic pulling a 16 ft trailer, or a Ryder rental truck.

Wasn’t there a stand-off when neither coach wanted to be the first to let his team take the field?
