He's not applying for the head coaching job. Sean Payton started off as a college QB and receivers coach. Bill Belichick started as a film guy and work his way up. Charlie Weis from my memory never played football lol.
Stop comparing NFL coaches to college position coaches. He would be a great hire. College position coaches are not the best coaches in America.

A future HOF player as a position coach? What's not to like? The negativity here can be unsettling at times.

recruiting is communication

Among his career highlights and awards are the Kyle Clifton Good Guy Award for professionalism in working with team staff, the Marty Lyons Award for community service, and the Ed Block Courage Award. He was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, the New York Jets All-Time Four Decade Team, and the Tennessee Titans 10th Anniversary Team.
Mawae served as president of the National Football League Players Association from 2008 to 2012, volunteers for numerous community outreach programs, is vice-president of the board of directors of Healing Place Serve, and is a member of the Dunham School Advancement Committee

I dont understand why people continue to bring up former players that were poor HEAD coaches. We are only wanting him to teach what he has done better than most while in the league. Granted, if it was shown he was a poor communicator that would be a negative, but he was president of the NFLPA.

History is riddled with great players who were poor coaches:
Wayne Gretzky, Isiah Thomas, Bob Cousy, Bart Starr, Elgin Baylor just to name a few.
How many of these guys played football? Weren't all these guys head coaches too? Im sure Gretzky would have been effective at teaching slapshots and Baylor at jumpshots, but they had to manage the entire game.
Again, OL requires technique to play effectively. Mawae obviously has that. Les Miles' background is in OL coaching so he wouldn't be alone. Even though he hasn't ever coached, its not like he would be completely lost. He played center, who calls out blocking schemes.
I will also point out that one of the main gripes I have seen with Stud involves his recruiting. I can't see Mawae not at least bringing charisma to the staff, although he will have to adjust to the time that goes into it.

hey, guys. i'm new to this thread. can anybody tell me whether kevin mawae has any nfl playing experience? did he ever go to the pro-bowl? do you think he'll make the hall of fame?
any info you could provide would be great.
also, did jimmy graham play any sports other than football in college? the announcers never reference whether or not he did during saints games.

Sean Payton sucked as a QB. He couldn't make an NFL roster until the strike. But he's now looked at as on of the top coaches in football. How many pro bowls did Bill Belichick make as a player?
95% of coaches at every level are former players. Some are pro bowlers, some were nobodies. Terrible point

No, dimwit, he's saying that "up" doesn't need to follow "coached"....

But people on here are stating that because he was good in college and probably a hall of famer in the NFL, he would make a great coach.

I think if any position should be taught by a former player, its probably offensive line.

Mawae said "this is the job I want" even though his resume is thin on experience."I think it would something I could be great at, I can pass on my knowledge of the game," Mawae said Thursday. "It just has to be the right situation. . . this came up. I think I'm good enough to do the job and I'd like an opportunity."
fricking give it to him! This guy could be doing A LOT of things with his life right now, and he wants to teach our guys his all pro technique and bring guys to the program. This is a slam dunk.

I did. Im just saying, I dont think being a good coach has anything to do if you were a good player or not. Most coaches are former players. If anything it prob just means that the shitty ones got an earlier start in coaching.

Let's interview Willie Roaf then.
