I'm actually not excited. The water in the marsh is so high and salty. My buddies lease was loaded with widgeon grass and hydrilla in Delacroix. I guarantee you it will all be gone which freaking sucks.

What part of the state do you hunt? I lived in Rome/Utica area for a yr and hunted a good bit in a small marsh just off Lake Ontario. Had some pretty good hints and killed my only banded duck that season...GWT hen.

I am in the same boat. However I'm still excited it's duck season I'm always excited but to loose everything a week before the season open sucks.

Another marsh hunter here not too happy with the rainfall. Tides were darn near storm high in most of the southeast la marshes, will see what it looks like tomorrow morning, the gage's say it's largely fallen back to about a normal high tide. Drove from BR to Centerville Tuesday through the back roads and saw field after field with beautiful sheet water on it that will be duck magnets till it drains. Not rice fields, but cane, beans, etc. and pastures.

While we started out promising with fronts in early October, these tiny fronts aren't doing us much and now the sheet water across the state will have our few birds spread all over.

The water allows me to look forward to my favorite slow day conversation.
