Setting up KODI on your Fire TV
01. Installing KODI
Updated way of installing KODI - NO Cpu needed - If you have any issues with this, let me know. I'll attempt to walk you through it or find a Youtube link that can better explain.
02. Once you've got it set up, it's time to get your add-ons.
Personally, I use Exodus, Phoenix, , castaway, & Sports Devil as my go to add-ons. To get most of these apps, you need to install the Fusion Repo onto your KODI application.
Installing Fusion
Once you're finished installing Fusion, go to:
Programs -> Add-On Install -> Video Add-ons
Click on the video Add-ons that you want. Exodus, Velocity, Phoenix, Castaway (Sports streaming), and others are on the lists.
03. Exodus Add-on and TRAKT.TV
Exodus is the next big thing for KODI, IMO. The library is building up and it's starting to gain a lot of support.
One thing I enjoy about Exodus is the integration of TRAKT.TV. You can set up a TRAKT acc and from your laptop or computer (possibly your phone?), you can add Movies and TV shows to your watch-list instead of having to search for them on your Fire TV. It also shows a display of most watched streams, indicating that they are likely the most successful ones.

Cut Cox cable last week, but still using their internet.
I still get local channels in HD.
Using Sling TV through Roku 2 with sports package for past 2 weeks for $25. It has worked great (50 Mbps download). Only complaint is that I can't pause ESPN channels.
GF is testing out Hulu.. Not sure if we'll keep it.
Already had Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Saving about $70 a month

Does anyone have any experience with Playon Tv LINK ? Gives you the ability to record streaming services like Netflix, etc.

I've got one tv set up with a fire tv box running TVMC version of Kodi. I've had it set up several months now but have kept cable because the streams seem to be not so consistent, either dropping service or just not staying up to date.
Is TVMC still a good source to go through? Or are these other builds y'all are talking about better?

Solid work
I had been meaning to consolidate my original thread and never got around to it.
Honestly, you probably did a better job than i could have as you seem more knowledgeable about how to actually cord cut.

Thanks for making a compilation of posts. Very much appreciated.
How is SlingTV for you guys? Someone at work said he cancelled because it was always buffering and had potato quality for high traffic channels during peak times.

I just cut the cord. I'm getting a firestick either tomorrow or the next day. Right now we are stuck on Netflix but I'm excited about the next few days.

I have a fair understanding of most of the streaming services, apps and services provided by different packages, however I'm still a bit confused about software named "PlayOn"... Can someone provide a clear explanation of what it is and what exactly it does.
Thanks in advance...

Just cut the cord yesterday. I have fire tv and playstation 3.
Use PlayStation vue for live tv and recording.
Also have Hulu, Netflix and amazon prime. I use an OTA antenna installed in attic split to 3 tv's to catch locals.
I went with vue instead of sling because of the dvr option and can also stream up to 5 tv's at the same time with one account instead of just one from sling. Looking to install kodi soon.
btw..Very cool thread glad I found it.

I just called ATT as my promotional rate will expire in 2 weeks. They want to add another $20 to the bill bringing it to $140 a month. I've always considered cutting the cord but until now, I figured what I pay for ATT would be sort of a wash compared to cutting the cord. Now, I'm convinced ATT can shove their service up their arse. I'm not paying that for my wife and I, when we already watch limited TV.
So, here's my hurdle. My wife is a little timid about cutting the cord. She likes to press a button and just watch the TV with no problems. I have a gameplan in mind to show her that getting HULU, Sling, using parents Netflix, and a digital antenna would allow her to watch her TV shows (which half are garbage but I digress) just without DVR service and a few more steps to get it going.
With that said, I KNOW i will need internet speeds that minimize buffering and issues so she can watch TV mostly pain free. I currently have 18 mbps with uVerse and my expectation is to increase that but I'm on the fence by how much. Looking at these posts, I'm guessing 45mbps is the generally accepted best practice for running multiple TV's without spending a ton on internet service.
Any other advice you can give me to convince my wife this is the right choice is greatly appreciated. The "presentation" occurs tonight so I have stopped all work today to prepare for this evenings main event.
Also, is ROKU the best option for streaming. I've seen a few limitations between Apple Tv and ROKU but ROKU seems to be better in the long run. FWIW, we are both iPhone/iPad users.

Can someone please help me?? My bill is $270.00 this month for internet and Uverse package with all the movie channels that I hardly even watch.
I have cox installation from about 7 years ago before I switched to ATT and they are offering 99.00 dollars per month for the internet, tv, and HBO.
Should I switch to them for a two years?
I have a ruko setup as well.
I cant take this fricking bs ATT is charging!! I watch more regular tv channels than movie channels

Just came here to say.....
I did it. The only thing in paying now is for Internet.
My Cox bill is going from $180/mo to $80
Not sure where to go from here, but I'm sure I'll be doing some reading in this thread.
