One of my favorite cities. Power and Light district is fun for a weekend night but it's pretty crowded and not my favorite area. If you're looking for free things to do there's a river walk trail that my gf and I loved. Joes Kansas City is the best BBQ in the city despite some who may argue. Go see the fountains at Country Club Plaza. Westport has the best bars and restaurant scene, and if you're there on the weekend they have a cool farmers market going on at River Market

ETA: The zoo is fun, and if you can get up early enough to beat the crowds the boulevard tour is worthwhile too

My favorite restaurants are Q39 and Jack Stack bbq. Jack Stack is a bit of a driver.

Obviously P&L (power and lights)is the big attraction for bars, But westport is more "hip". Also chain restaurants and chain bars around P&L

For shopping or walking around(also fine dinning) the Plaza is a must.

Negroe Leagues baseball museum is really good, if you are into baseball it is pretty cool to read about all the teams. They have some funny names. New Orleans had a team.
Hereford House has a good steak. It is out on the Interstate near the ballpark. Ballpark area is really nice. Lots of tailgating going on if you get there early.

WWI museum is really well done if you re a history buff.

Lots of great food for meat eaters. I agree with above posters about Jacks Stacks. I had some kind of combo plate with beef ribs, brisket and some other meat.
