Had a previous commitment so I DVR’D the game. So while checking on this board during the game I figured we had the worst defense in the country. Then I actually watched the game. Afterwards I pulled up the stats. Total yards for Vandy was 374. Anybody who knows football, knows when it’s a blowout the other team is going to get garbage yards. They were 6-17 on third downs and 19-39 completion attempts. That’s pretty good for any defense. All while we used backups. Hell, Orgeron admitted we started the first series with some second string guys. And by the way, we broke an LSU record for how many TD’s scores by a QB. But oh no the sky is falling! Some of you will never be happy.

I love your post. It’s the most reasonable I’ve seen since the game. We have panic fans.

We played poorly on the opening drive of each half other than that it wasn't near as bad as people are making it out to be.

We just need to learn how to tackle and we prevent 2-3 of those touchdowns. Idk what happened to the tackling this year. It's been bad in every game.

Why are you so focused on stats? There was obvious issue with stopping the run, tackling, and creating pressure: the same concerns most people are having. This against no real talent other than Texas all year too. People are worried about when we hit the bulk of our schedule if we’ll have the backbone to hold up.

You sure you actually watched the game?

I liked your post, but this "previous commitment" BS should get downvotes.

The biggest issue was tackling from the back 7. The front actually played pretty well considering how depleted they were. Particularly shelvin

I watched it twice actually. My point is a lot of posters on this board are acting like we had no defense. We did. While we gave up the opening drive for a TD. We stopped them the next four time. All while we scored 28 points. Our QB broke a record tonight with how many touchdowns he threw. But most people want to complain about the D. They had almost 5 minutes of time of possession on us. Might not seem a lot but when the offense scores so quickly it makes a difference.

Our fans need something to complain about.

You know LSU is rolling when they are complaining about the D..

We had so many key guys on D out too.. The D gave up like 24 points in a game we put up 66 points. It doesn't even matter. They need to chill out and enjoy the insane win.

This is such a fun season. I'll take this over what we have seen the past several years.

You nailed it man. And as long as we keep scoring at the pace we are, I’m not worried on D, they will be fine.

I'm saying some, not even the majority, of the tackling issues have to be coming from the new offense and defensive fatigue.

Tackling is the first thing to hurt when tired, at least non-mental. We all suspected it was going to hurt our defense, and it has been discussed quite a bit.

I'm surmising that this is how it is manifesting itself.

We have other issues, and tackling for reasons is one of them.

Frankly, IF this is the ONLY manifestation of our new offense's effect on our defense... I'll take it. We all knew there was a trade off. I like this trade.

Btw, this is somewhat fixable just not immediately. Yes, conditioning is part of it. But so is depth. Once the #2s get more experience we can sub more and this issue will be mitigated somewhat.

I agree,at 4-0 tigers are averaging about 58pts a game.I believe our Defense will be ready and nasty when florida comes to town.
