I'm a big fan of Wellbutrin, but usually recommend it for those whose depression includes anhedonia and/or anergia. It's also great for those who need help with cravings (smokers, substance abusers, over eaters). OP, doesn't sound like this describes you. An SSRI/SNRI may be a better starting point, or perhaps some therapy. I'd recommend both for PTSD. Please get a referral to a psychiatric professional instead of leaving treatment in your PCP's hands. Best of luck and I hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks for the responses, about 3-4 years ago I started having random issues with anxiety and got put on Paxil. I tried it for 2-3 weeks and it was the most miserable 2-3 weeks of my life. For the most part I overcame anxiety on my own. I was having bad panic attacks back then which I’d never had before, I still no longer have them. SSRIs since then have me skeptical but maybe a different one would work

Yes, I take it. It has completely changed my life. Therapy helps too.
But, everyone is different. That’s why they have so many different types of meds. Getting meds dialed in took years for me.
Also, give medicine at least a month to start working.

Have you looked into CBD without THC?
Also, L-Theanine supplements are rated very favorably by thousands of reviews on Amazon. You may want to consider this route before going the Rx route.

I was on it about 6 years ago, I didnt like it one bit. It made me feel constantly uneasy and I gained about 20 pounds while I was on it too. I eventually stopped taking it one day and never really looked back. However different drugs affect people differently so it may be different to you, good luck in getting issues sorted out. I am still trying to get mine fixed all these years later.

I'm no doctor, but have experience with Wellbutrin. If I remember correctly, Wellbutrin affects levels of Dopamine in our brain.
I was taking something for anxiety (Vyvrid) that worked on levels of Serotonin.
My doctor switched me to Wellbutrin, and I turned into a fricking emotional fire keg! LoL.... When I saw a psychiatrist, she spoke harshly about the General Practice Dr. who switched me, how ignorant he was shouldn't prescribe depression/anxiety meds.
See a psychiatrist before you start taking any anxiety/depression meds. IMHO

Lexapro seems to be very productive lately. I’ve only heard good things.

Dont call a psychologist. You need a psychiatrist so they can prescribe meds for you. Psychologists are expensive social workers.

I’ve had better success with Lexapro

Or, as they hope to call them in Minneapolis, Portland and Seattle, Police Officers.

I quit smoking on Wellbutrin 20 years ago. It seemed to level me out.
Now I take a mood stabilizer called Lamictal and Xanax for anxiety. I don’t worry about sleep. I just sleep when I’m tired. Your situation is different than mine. I’m not trying to save people’s lives however I do need to be clear headed and on top of my game at work.
I’d recommend getting into a good psychiatrist. Sometimes it takes several combination of drugs to hit the sweet spot.

Do you take any ADHD meds? Was having similar issues. Doctors thought it was PTSD but at the time i had been 14 years since my last deployment and i didn’t feel PTSD just pops up years later. I got off my ADHD meds, started exercising, and haven’t had any issues since. Good luck with it buddy.

I did the opposite, went to therapist first. They are quick to tell you to try medication, and that's not what I wanted to hear within the first visit. I did get on meds. When you find the one that works for you, get on a regimen of taking the same dosage at the same time every day and don't skip. Life has a way of beating you down. Take care of yourself.

Many of the antidepressants can cause weight gain. Wellbutrin doesn’t. I think there is some risk of seizures.

Not sure where you live, but major chemical plants, hotels, casinos, event spaces, etc. have their own EMT people on site. May be worth looking into something like that to get you out of the ambulance.

I ve taken Welbutrin twice in my life for a period of a about a year each to help with depression and insomnia. It along with a regular exercise did help and when I stopped there were very little withdrawal. I still get insomnia from time to time and use high quality CBD oil from Charlotte's Web Co. I know many on this board dismiss CBD oil but it does work for me and puts me in a very relaxed state.

That's what they started me on 2 years ago. It gave me the weirdest dreams I've ever had. More so than Ambien.
I'm on a combo of a low dose of Pristiq and a natural supplement now that works great.

Have you tried 5-htp or Sam-e? I'm a psych nurse and can tell you that welbutrin is a good drug, for some people. As one poster put it, sometimes it takes trial and error. But personally I would try a good supplement first such as 5-htp or Sam-e. My wife was having some issues like you. Doc put her on antidepressants which didn't help but gained weight. She started taking these supplements and I got my wife back. She swears by them. In any case good luck and hope you start feeling better.

I’ve dealt with some of things you’re dealing with and have taken Wellbutrin so hopefully I can help. Re: the Wellbutrin, I didn’t find it to be that helpful and I tried different doses and formulations. It didn’t hurt but didn’t really help either. I was on it over a year and got off and felt pretty much the same after. My doc added prozac to it at one point and I did feel better then but it made me gain weight so I got off of it but prozac is an old drug that a lot of people have found success with so maybe look into that. For sleep, the only thing that ever helped me besides Xanax is magnesium so I would highly recommend that. It’s a natural supplement and helps with all kinds of things. For the bad thoughts, look into taking a high doses of fish oil. That helps me a lot. If you read about fish oil and worrisome thoughts, there’s some good articles. I take around 2800mg. Good luck!
