Epic, how does that compare to the double oak you recently got? I have a younger double oak (7 yr) and while good, the cognac finish is a clear step above. I have seen it on secondary for what is nearly identical to retail which kind of blows my mind, especially given what purple tops go for.

The Cask is better, IMO. More depth of flavor, probably has to do with the 127 proof vs the 112 proof of my DO 9 yr. Also, I think the double oaking adds a honey note which is lighter in profile, whereas the cognac finish adds a dark fruit note. I’m gonna get another The Cask soon, it runs about $25 more than the DO, but it’s worth it IMO.

ETA: is your DO 100% Willett mashbill? I know some aren’t, if not I can send you a sample of mine.

ETA2: honestly, the cognac finish pairs so well with the Willett profile that it really just tastes like a good purple top IMO, I don’t know if I could tell it was finished in a blind.
