If they try to make any of the characters sympathetic (i.e. McCoy in the Bonfire of the Vanities movie), this will fail. Unfortunately it also looks like it'll be set in present-day Atlanta and not late-90s Atlanta, which means no Freaknik scene.

I thought that Conrad character in the book was fairly sympathetic. Young guy unjustly prisoned...learns of Stoic philosophy in prison, etc. But you are probably right about the Freaknik scene. If I remember, this was the arrogant Ga. Tech football player who raped the rich white girl.(?)
