What do you have and do you like it? Looking at the Samsung WA55A7700AV | DVE55A7700V currently.

I have a Maytag Bravos which has been excellent. Couldn't get a speed queen last minute when mine broke so went with it.

Electrolux is the best I have found and has worked well for us. It's among the best on the market but this board has a hard on for Speed Queen for some reason. Must be a big deal in Baton Rouge outlets.
Electrolux is about $2,500 for the set.

Here is write up the NYT did on Speed Queen. I'm sure people will crap all over it here but they did a thorough testing
NYT
We’re confident that Speed Queen washers are durable over the long haul, but are they also reliable in day-to-day use? Well, Yale Appliance says that it sold 243 of these machines in 2018 and performed 65 service calls—a service rate of about 27 percent, which makes Speed Queen the most repair-prone brand that Yale Appliance has sold in any significant volume.

Do not see this claim in the linked article (within the article).
quote:
The average repair rate for top load washers is 7.02%, or about 2% better than appliances in general.
Speed Queen’s rate for top loaders is 9-10%. Doesn’t state what the calls were usually for, for repairs etc. Just that if they have to send a van it’s logged as a call.
Don’t care, love my SQ I’ve had since 2017 with no issues and with a household with heavier than average soiling, cleans far better than anything I’ve had before.

Regarding LG top loaders…

These large tub style machines typically dont last long. It creates an incredible amount of force when spinning a huge tub like that at 1,000+ RPM. You would expect to get the typical 5-10 Years out of this washer before discarding it.
Contrast this to the Yale Appliance article referenced in the NYT article above where they found the LG service rate was 4% to Speed Queen’s 9%.
In reference to the Yale Appliance article, have to take all data into context. I fully expect SQ to far outlast the typical 5–10 year period for run of the mill top loaders, at basically the same cost

Do not buy Samsung. They are nice to look at, but will break before and after warranty. Folks do not repair them for whatever reason. After it is out of warranty, you are out of luck.
Speed Queen with manual controls is the ticket. It will last forever.

I'm not a huge Whirlpool fan but I do have a set of Duet Sports from 2008 that still run like new. I DIY'd replaced the inlet mixing valve on the washer for $25 about 5 years ago and the dryer control board $150 about 4 years ago. The washer is a front load.
I will likely go GE front loader this next round.

I think that's part of the deal. The older style washers may require maintenance (or not), but you can actually do it. Newer computer controlled machines not nearly as easily repaired. I had a non-agitator top load GE that had a part break and was told it was significantly cheaper to just buy a new one. Not designed for repairs.

Have a SQ and we love it. Whatever you get, DO NOT get anything “he”. Misleading “high efficiency” means uses less water. Less water = less cleaning.

frick MAYTAG in it's current Whirlpool owned form.
I had a 30+ year old Maytag top loader lock up the tub shaft bearing in the transmission in May. Tore it down to assess, and it was going to cost $500-600 to replace it (no longer sell any repair parts, it is complete transmission or nothing) along with related seals, etc.
Oldest daughter has a Whirlpool and raves about how she loves it, so I looked for the most basic Maytag/Whirlpool model.
$700 later I have a POS Maytag sitting in my garage still awaiting repair, which I bought June 2, used it till Labor Day weekend when it chewed the plastic gears up in the piece of shite junk transmission, and became unusable.
Called customer service, was told it will be Sept. 23 before we can get someone out to look at it. He comes on Sept. 23 , plugs it in and knows immediately that the trans has gutted itself. Orders it, and informs us it's on backorder and will be at least 2 weeks.
Three weeks later, new trans is here, he comes on Oct. 18, replaces it and fires it up to calibrate the new trans...
It makes a more horrible noise now than it did before.
Guy shakes his head and calls their tech-line. They tell him order basically everything that moves. Of course it is all on backorder.
We had already talked about how bad their new transmissions were, and how many he had replaced, but when this happened and I saw his reaction, I said "You pull bad ones right out of the box on a regular basis don't you?"
"Yep."
I don't blame him, or the repair company Whirlpool/Maytag has contracted with.
Whirlpool/Maytag should step up and offer some sort of resolution instead of a lame apology. We are talking well north of $200 in laundromat expenses at this point if I hadn't just replaced their junk (and it is just myself and my wife, would hate to think I still had 2 kids at home playing sports), and they apparently don't care. Went with Maytag due to my experience from childhood on...they are not the same company. Junk product and shite customer service.
Nov. 3, and here we are with a useless piece of shite still taking up space in my garage waiting on parts to fix it.
Meanwhile we hated it from the start. It takes forever to run any load of laundry, it doesn't clean well, and it's noisy as shite.
Bought a Speed Queen TC5003 when I found out it would be two weeks before they could even look at the POS, which will probably outlive me.
Another call to so-called "customer service" got a response of "Sorry, there are people who have been waiting longer than you for parts".
So I have a washing machine which was in service for 3 months before it failed, has been out of service for 2 months with no resolution ETA, and Whirlpool/Maytag is unwilling to do anything but say "Muh...sorry".
frick WHIRLPOOL/MAYTAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought Maytag w&d about a year and a half ago. No complaints. Find something with the least amount of electronics.
