Mounting a couple of outdoor fans. Using a TV mount to give it extra swivel ability, just like the picture below. Will be mounting them to metal patio cover poles.

What sort of screws should I use? Was also thinking about using square u bolts. Would u bolts alone support it or should I use 2 screws and maybe add a u bolt in the middle?

Maybe put a wooden board in between. Those bolts might crush that post.

Good idea.

The post is 4x4. What about putting 2 hex bolts all the way through the post?

Weight is about 22lbs.

That fan is going to vibrate the hell out of that patio cover. I have mine mounted to a 2x4 in the soffit and I can still hear it vibrating inside the house.

Here is mine.

Absolutely correct. I have mine mounted to an exterior brick wall and can hear vibrations inside the house.

I wouldn't mount a fan or anything else on that post.

Dont mount to that post if you want to be happy. Find someting more solid, then use a rubber gasket somewhere. My buddy has his in his brick and had to go get about a 3/8 inch thick piece of rubber and form a gasket to get the shaking to subside.

Damn, appreciate all the feedback. May need to reconsider my placement. Thank you.

I find it best to approach them from behind.

Pre drill holes lag bolts should be fine

I had a buddy of mine that has a welding shop build me brackets out of 1” flat bar that wraps around my posts on the porch. Also made the fan bracket separate so there was adjustability. This eliminates vibration wallowing out lag bolts/screws and also allowed them to be mounted without having to drill into my posts.

I have 2 of that exact brand fan (from amazon) and they are fantastic! Highly recommend.

As for vibrations, mine are mounted in my soffets and there is no vibration at all. Mounted through the plywood soffet into the rafters. Again, I was very happy with these fans.

Decided to just go for it. Used some rubber washers to help with the vibration. Actually have none at all. Hopefully it holds up.

Now you can do something with that light fixture.

Haha, it's part of some Costco string lights that string around the outside. Cord used to be white lol.

Looks good.

You have a link to that fan, looks like something I could use on my patio porch.

LINK

The amount of air it puts out, 6360 cfm, is impressive. Not too loud either.

LINK - TV mount I used.

Great - I thought that might be it when I looked for it on Amazon but I was confused by the mounting bracket but you cleared that up as well. LOL. Thanks!

Here is the mounting option I used. The only difference is that I used a nylon washer on each side of the bolt to allow for smooth swiveling. Has worked perfect for a year now.

This would have been easier, cheaper, and less bulky than the tv mount Oh well. I wasn't sure how else to get the full motion.

Couldn't mount in the soffit like others because my space was limited on that wall with the TV and fridge.
